Mr. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi delivered his speech on Independence day of India, regarding expansion of Fibre Optics Internet all across India, covering all villages, cities, towns and bringing people together in one umbrella of Brotherhood and Humanity with help of Digital India.
Prime Minister announced that under the ‘Digital India’ initiative, every village in the country will now be connected by the optical fibre cable in nearly 3 years. Recently Solinn Technologies Pvt Ltd, laid their Fibre Internet network in the village area of Rishikesh, Shyampur where people were facing the need of high speed internet and were waiting to get connected on fibre optic internet.

In his Independence Day speech on India completing 74 years of independence,Mr. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that in the next 1000 days, every village in India will get optical fiber internet.
“In the last five years, 1.5 lakh gram panchayats in the country have been connected with optical fiber cables. Before 2014, only 5 dozen panchayats in the country were connected with optical fiber. Now, our aim is to connect every village with high-speed internet. This goal will be met in the coming thousand days. In the coming 1,000 days, every village in the country will be connected with optical fiber,” said PM Modi from the Red Fort in Delhi.
PM Modi further said that the Union Territory of Lakshadweep on the Arabian Sea will be connected with submarine optical fiber cable.
He also spoke about the Digital India Campaign and how it has played a pivotal role during coronavirus pandemic.
“In Corona’s time, we have seen what the role of Digital India campaign has been. Just last month, about 3 lakh crore rupees have transacted from BHIM UPI alone,” said PM Modi.
The Modi government has been pushing for the government’s flagship programme ‘Digital India’ for past few years.
The ‘Digital India’ campaign was launched by PM Modi on July 1, 2015, with an objective to connect rural areas with high-speed Internet networks and improving digital literacy.
As of now, 1,54,999 Gram Panchayats have been connected by optical fiber, under the ambitious BharatNet scheme. The second phase of the project is underway.
Minister of Finance, Anurag Thakur, told India Today, “The PM has made his vision very clear, the next step is to lay the optical fiber in every village of India. Not just villages, but we will make sure it reaches islands also. We are linking Andaman and Nicobar and the next target is to link Lakshadweep. The road ahead has been made clear by the prime minister.”
Union IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told India Today: “We are already working on optical fiber connection from Chennai to Andaman, a distance of 2,000 km. We will soon plan another line from Kerela to Lakshadweep. In the next 1,000 days, 6 lakh villages will be connected.
Recognising the threat to security and privacy because of increased digital dependence, PM Modi also announced that new cybersecurity policy will be unveiled soon.
“India is alert, cautious and is taking decisions to counter security threats and is constantly developing new systems. A new national cyber security strategy has been drafted in the country and will be soon launched,” he said.
